Event description

Description

The SNP's new programme for government contains a promise to fund research into the feasibility of a citizens’ basic income scheme. Many people still have questions and concerns about how such a scheme would work in practice, how it could be costed and what impact it would have on the drive for people to find work.

Common Weal has been researching the feasiability of a Universal Basic Income (UBI) for some time. In August it published a policy paper outlining a different approach to Social Security, putting UBI at its core.

We are delighted to welcome two expert speakers on this topic:

  • Anne G. Miller: author of the recently published A Basic Income Handbook, (Luath Press, £12.99), and trustee of the Citizen's Basic Income Network Scotland'. (Read briefing paper here)

  • Dr Craig Dalzell: author of the report and Common Weal Head of Research

I would urge everyone to come along no matter how knowledgable, or skeptical you are on the subject. This is a chance to ask questions and get informed! And if you support UBI in principle and are keen to spread the word, this will give you the information you need to address the concerns of others.

This is a FREE event. if you wish to come along, please register so we have an idea of numbers. There will be an opportunity to make a donation on the night to help towards venue and speaker costs.
