Invisible Cities isa global social enterprise that trains people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides of their own city and offers alternative walking tours to locals and tourists. After starting in Edinburgh in 2016, they now operate in Manchester and Glasgow, with York launching in June 2019.

This event will explore and discuss ‘Doing Tourism Differently’ across the world.

We strongly believe that travel has the power to transform lives. Social and sustainable tourism experiences across the world facilitate meaningful interactions between travelers and locals to foster empathy and breakdown stereotypes. Travelers become inspired, locals empowered and their projects find a unique opportunity for people to connect and learn from each other. The purpose of this event shine a light on trailblazers in the social and sustainable tourism industry. The speakers will showcase organisations from around the world leading in social tourism, explore different themes within this industry and encourage collaboration between participants. This event will include a space for networking in breakout rooms. We challenge all attendees to think about how they can support their local community through tourism. From hearing the speakers and learning about social tourism projects around the world, we hope that attendees will feel inspired. To capture this excitement we are creating some time for breakout rooms to allow for people in different industries to meet in smaller groups and talk about some ideas in social tourism. Over the past decade, she has worked with both small local operators and mass tour operators from across Europe, South-East Asia and America. Anula went on to co-found Travindy, a sustainability news platform and a consulting agency.
