Dolforwyn Castle
Part of the Newtown Walking Festival 2026 collection
Overview
This is a strenuous walk of 9.2 miles with a picnic stop at Dolforwyn Castle.
The walk leaders are both Welsh speakers and will be happy to share with walkers their love of the language.
The walk climbs up from Newtown onto a ridgeway with good views of the Severn Valley, then on to Dolforwyn Castle built in 1273, where walkers can picnic.
Walkers then have a choice to return on the bus from Abermule, otherwise the return journey follows the canal with industrial archeology of the 18th century.
