Down to the Bone: Exploring the human skeleton

The award winning Museums are open to the public, 7 days a week, 10am to 5pm and are home to one of the largest and most historic pathology collections in the United Kingdom.Surgeons’ Hall Museums reopened in 2015 after a major £4.4 million Heritage Lottery Funded redevelopment project. As one of the oldest Museums in Scotland, the collections grew from 1699 after 'natural and artificial curiosities' were publically sought,  with the Playfair Building opening in 1832 to house the Barclay and Bell collections. Whilst the Museums were initially established as a medical teaching resource, all are now welcome to visit.

Join Surgeons Hall Museums Human Remains Conservator Cat Irving for this course of two workshops exploring the human skeleton.

We all have a skeleton holding us up, but we may only think about it if it causes us problems. This two-week course with human remains conservator Cat Irving will examine the human skeleton using bones from Surgeons' Hall's collections. It will look at what bones are, what they do, what they can tell us about people's lives - and what happens when things go wrong. No prior knowledge required!This is a course of 2 workshops held over two weeks via Zoom. One ticket admits buyers to both weeks of the course. Individual weeks not sold separately. These tickets will admit the attendee to the Tuesday evening classes.Week 1: Tuesday 16th March, 7pm-8:30pm (approx).Week 2: Tuesday the 23rd March, 7pm-8:30pm (approx).We will email attendees with the Zoom meeting code by 3pm the day before the first class. If you have not received your login details by this time please check your spam mail. If you have any problems please email museum@rcsed.ac.uk. We will record each session and send them out to all attendees for anyone who cannot make a live session or for those who would like to watch again. These recordings will be available for 1 week.Age 16+ Eventbrite charge a booking fee (0.49p + 6.5% of the ticket value) for this event which is included in your ticket price but is non-refundable.
