Dr Malcolm Torry: Getting Universal Basic Income Done

The York Union, founded in 2013, is a student-run organisation that hosts engaging talks, interviews and debates contributing to the intellectual life of the University of York and the surrounding area. We aim to bring the best and most influential speakers to the north of England, competing with events typically held by the ‘golden triangle’ institutions.Unlike similar societies at other universities, we do not charge a fee for membership. Instead, our events are open to all university students and staff, as well as members of the public.We are grateful to all our donors and to the many members of the university who have helped and facilitated our existence and events.

The York Union warmly invites you to attend our first ever virtual event, as we welcome Dr Malcolm Torry for an address titled:

"Getting Universal Basic Income Done"

Dr Torry is a distinguished researcher and author, currently Director of the Citizen's Income Trust and an honorary research fellow at the social policy department at the LSE. Authoring several books on the matter, including Money for Everyone and Why We Need A Citizens Basic Income, Dr Torry is widely regarded as an authority in the debate surrounding a Citizen's Basic Income.

With the outbreak COVID-19, the benefits of an unconditional, non- withdrawable income are becoming more and more commonplace in public discourse. Join us for this timely discussion on UBI this Thursday on Zoom. 

The talk will include a Q&amp;A during which time audience members can pose questions to Dr Torry. Our events are as intelligent as our audience so please join us for what should be an interesting and engaging evening!
