DRAWING FROGS AND MARKMAKING

In this online drawing class, we will explore different approaches for drawing frogs through fun and engaging guided exercises.

We will examine how various artists have used mark making in their own work while experimenting with different approaches to layering materials. Through a series of quick and enjoyable exercises, we aim to fill several pages with frog drawings and inspire you to continue different ways of mark making in your own artistic practice.

Although the materials list is in some areas broad and some areas quite specific I really urge you to bring along materials you have already and think about a variety of marks and textures you can make with those. Perhaps bring something you already have but aren't sure what to do with it - these mark making exercises can be perfect for exploring materials in a non-figurative way, which can help loosen up and find new ways of working.

No experience is necessary; this class is open to all skill levels.

Suggested Materials:

As a minimum:

• Sketchbook
• Paper heavy enough for wet materials (smooth)
• Something to draw with (pens or pencils)
• Coloured pencils (variety of colours)
• Watercolours / gouache OR water based marker pens
• Any other quick drying materials you usually enjoy working with (the more the better! Bring what you have)
• In this class we’ll be drawing frogs, so please consider gathering together green materials.

Extras that might be useful:

(If you have them, bring them along! You can always buy them after the class and experiment with the replay)

• Soft pastels
• Matt medium
• Coloured markers or brush pens
• Coarse paint brushes
• Chunky paint pens - e.g Liquitex Marker
• Inks - e.g Pebeo Watercolour Ink
• Neocolor 2 - Any colours - just 1 or 2 in your favourite colours would work well
• Beige Posca 8mm - or any chunky marker pen

Emma Carlisle is an award-winning artist based in Plymouth, UK. She holds a First Class Honours degree in Illustration from the University of Plymouth (2011) and an MA in Children's Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art (2014). WHO IS THIS FOR:

This class is suitable for ALL LEVELS.

TICKETS:

We suggest an amount of £20. However, we understand that may not be possible for everybody. Please be honest and pay what you can afford so that we may continue to offer our sessions on this basis whilst also giving our tutors a sustainable wage.

There is also a ticket option to "Pay It Forward" to support us and our students! We offer classes for free to those who can't afford the minimum amount (If this is you please email us to join for free). This continues to ensure our classes are available to everyone!

ONCE BOOKED:

You will receive a confirmation email and be able to access information on how to join the event via your eventbrite "Online Event Page" You can access this by signing into eventbrite or creating an account using the email address that you booked with.

IN THE CLASS:

You can't be seen or heard in our classes, your audio and video are automatically turned off and there's no way these can be turned on. You can talk to us and others in the class in the chat box!

AFTER CLASS:

We love to see your drawings or anything else our classes inspire! You can share them with us by tagging us on instagram (@londondrawinggroup) or emailing us if you don't have socials.

ARE YOU TRYING TO BOOK VIA THE EVENTBRITE PHONE APP?!

We have been in touch with Eventbrite, and they have informed us that currently you cannot book tickets to online events in their app. It's very frustrating and we have been assured they are working on a solution. In the meantime, we recommend that you book tickets to our events outside of the iOS app - either via a web browser or a desktop. If you book our classes regularly we recommend deleting the eventbrite App.

RECORDING ACCESS

W e will email the recording link to everyone who has booked approx 2 hours after the live class finishes. This will be available to watch anytime within 14 days
