Dressmaking - Fitting and Pattern Alterations - IPS
This class will give you the tools you need to take your sewing to the next level
Learning to correctly fit a pattern is something that most sewists struggle with. In this class we will be learning how to identify fitting errors, and how to make some of the most common fit adjustments that can be made to our paper pattern pieces to achieve the best result.
The majority of the class concentrates on fitting the bodice, and we work on 50% scale pattern pieces to practise altering patterns. Then after discussing the basics of trouser fitting, including adjusting crotch curves we then use the last hour or so of the class to discuss students individual fitting issues. Students are welcome to bring a handmade garment and corresponding pattern pieces that they are having trouble fitting and during this final hour we can discuss how to improve the fit.
We will learn:
- How to identify fit issues
- Learn the basic principles of how to begin adjusting fit
- Bust adjustments, full/small bust and moving bust apex
- Sway back adjustment and high round back adjustment.
- Broad/narrow back adjustment.
- Lengthen/Shorten adjustments
- Shoulder width and slope adjustments
- Basic crotch curve adjustments
To optimise in-class time, a basic understanding of dressmaking/menswear is preferred.
Supplied: Scissors, Pins, Tape Measures, pattern paper, Tea and Coffee.
Required: Lunch
