“Drop the Act” is a brand new community for actors and performers, creating a safe, open, and non-judgmental space to take off the mask, be yourself, and speak honestly about mental health. In an industry that can often feel isolating and competitive, these fortnightly meetups (free of charge) offer a place to connect, share, and support one another. No performances, no pretenses.
This initiative is inspired by Phil Aizlewood, a talented actor and passionate mental health advocate who sadly lost his life to depression last year. This community is a tribute to Phil’s legacy, carried forward by his close friends – Lucie (Actor & Mental Health Coach) and Frankie(Actor & Practitioner) – who are dedicated to creating a space where you feel heard, understood, and not alone.
We’re introducing Drop the Act with an official launch and fundraising event at the Phoenix Arts Club, held on Wed 14th May during Mental Health Awareness Week. This is a space for everyone, whether you’re in the industry or simply passionate about mental wellbeing, to come together and be part of the conversation.
There’ll be guest speakers, live music, and above all, an opportunity to gather, connect, and celebrate community. Every moment of this event is dedicated to breaking the stigma, fostering connection, and combatting the loneliness that so often goes unspoken in the arts.
Tickets
We’re offering a pay-what-you-can pricing system – come as you are and pay £10, or pay what you can for a ticket - however big or small. All proceeds go directly into sustaining the community and running future meetups so attendees can come for free. This event is not for profit – it’s for people.
Join us. Drop the mask. Be part of the community.
Follow @droptheactuk for updates, and we can’t wait to see you there.
