Using and Managing Data explores how information is collected, stored, accessed and shared safely within day-to-day social care practice. The session focuses on protecting privacy, maintaining trust and supporting safe, person-centred care through accurate and secure information handling.This includes:
- using secure organisational systems
- recording information accurately and consistently
- avoiding duplicate or unnecessary records
- updating records promptly
- using approved systems and devices when accessing or updating information
The training covers secure use of organisational systems, accurate record keeping, appropriate information sharing, confidentiality, cyber-secure behaviours and reporting incidents or near misses promptly. Real-life social care examples are used throughout to explore safe and ethical data use involving colleagues, family members, health professionals and external agencies.This session links to the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) by supporting staff awareness, safe information handling and the secure day-to-day use of data within care settings.This includes:
- accurate and secure record keeping
- appropriate information sharing
- safe use of organisational systems and devices
- confidentiality and need-to-know access
- reporting incidents or near misses promptly
- staff training and awareness
