Dumpling Masterclass at Chinese Laundry

Tongtong RenTongtong Ren was born in Jingzhou, mainland China and moved to Beijing with her family when she was very young. Her parents set up a number of restaurants focused on bringing their hometown cuisine to the big city, so she grew up working both in the kitchen and front of house. At 18 she moved to Shanghai to study at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and met Peiran during her studies. Both ladies had an interest in fashion and decided to move to London to study at the Royal College of Art. Tongtong studied Product Design, and following her studies she set up her own jewellery design label in London. After further discussions with Peiran, Tongtong found that their hearts were very much more in food and they started to develop some food products to sell at street food markets across London, which eventually evolved into Chinese Laundry and the restaurant opened its doors on Upper Street in Islington in November 2015.Peiran GongPeiran Gong grew up in the coastal town of Dalian in Liaoning, China, before moving to Tsinghua Univeristy in Beijing at the age of 18, where she met Tongtong. The friends moved to London together to study at Royal College of Art, where Peiran studied Womenswear Fashion. After setting up and running her own fashion label for almost two years she decided to take a break and work with Tongtong in food, where their real heart lies, and the rest is history.

Join us for a night dedicated to the art of making dumplings! In celebration of Chinese New Year we will be hosting three nights of dumpling masterclasses at our restaurant Chinese Laundry in Islington. Dumplings are a key part of Chinese New year and in Northern China where we grew up, the whole family makes and eats dumplings from morning till midnight. 
We will show you some tips and family recipes for dumpling making at home, to prepare you for your Chinese New Year party or for any other ocassion that you may crave dumplings (like all the time!). 
Each class will last for two hours, hosted by Tongtong, the co-owner of Chinese Laundry. During each class we will demonstrate different ways of dumpling making. 
Your ticket will also include a Cocktail, glass of Wine, or for a more authentic Chinese experience a shot of Baijiu (Chinese rice spirit). We think making dumplings is more fun when tipsy!
And of course, you will be able to eat and take away the dumplings you make. You will have a dumpling dinner prepared by Tongtong alongside 2 other dishes selected from our menu.
