West Sussex Mind

This is an E-Learning Course intended for parents and carers and those who work with children and/or young people in West Sussex.

<h2><strong><strong>Please see the details on how to access the course below</strong></strong></h2><h2><br></h2><h2><strong><strong>Eligibility and Audience</strong></strong></h2><p>This is a <strong><strong>E-Learning Course</strong></strong> that can be done at a time that suits you. <strong><strong>Please note, this course will no longer be available after 31st May, so must be completed by then. </strong></strong></p><p>This course is free due to funding received from West Sussex County Council. <strong><strong>You are only eligible for a funded place if you are a </strong></strong><strong><strong>parent/carer or work with children and/or young people in West Sussex.</strong></strong></p><p>The course is for anyone who works with, or has regular contact with, children and young people. It explains the common reasons why a young person might self-harm and how to respond when you suspect somebody is self-harming. It also explains best practice for approaching the subject in education and healthcare settings.</p><p>This is course is primarily for:</p><ul><li>Education staff, including head teachers and governors</li><li>Healthcare staff</li><li>Care workers, social workers, and managers</li><li>Other professional organisations, community groups and faith organisations</li><li>Parents and other family members</li><li>(This course is primarily aimed at parents and/or carers of children and young people in West Sussex but other family members over 18 are also very welcome)</li></ul><p><br></p><h2><strong><strong>Course Overview</strong></strong></h2><p>The course is split into two modules: An Introduction, and How to Respond.</p><p>You will learn the risk factors, the common reasons why somebody might self-harm, and how to respond to any young person who you suspect may be self-harming.</p><p>The course also discusses how to approach the issue in schools and how healthcare professionals can feel better prepared to help the young people they come into contact with.</p><p>On completion of the course, you will automatically get a certificate, containing your name, CPD hours, the date and learning objectives.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>Objectives</h2><p>Once you’ve completed this course, you’ll have a good working knowledge of:</p><ul><li>How and why young people self-harm</li><li>The common risk factors and who is at risk</li><li>The common misconceptions about self-harm, and people’s attitudes towards it</li><li>The importance of taking all instances of self-harm seriously</li><li>How to approach someone you think may be self-harming</li><li>What schools should do to address self-harm</li><li>When it is necessary to refer someone for professional help</li><li>How someone who has self-harmed should be treated in a healthcare setting</li><li>The online dangers for those who self-harm</li><li>Strategies that can be used to avoid or minimise the incidence of or damage caused by self-harm</li></ul><p><br></p><h2><strong><strong>Accessing the course</strong></strong></h2><p>Please look out for your confirmation email which will contain instructions on how to access the course.</p><p>These courses are better done on laptop / desktop computers rather than mobile devices.</p><p>Please do get in touch if you have any further questions: <a href="mailto:training@westsussexmind.org" title="mailto:training@westsussexmind.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">training@westsussexmind.org</a></p><p><br></p><h2><strong><strong>In-House Courses</strong></strong></h2><p>In House courses are a cost-effective way of training a whole team in your own venue, on a date that works for you.
