We are excited to invite you to our Ealing Roots & Wings Peer Research Project Showcase this October, which focuses on sharing the impact of health inequalities on Black African and Caribbean communities in the borough of Ealing. This event will bring together peer researchers, policymakers, health institutions and community members to:
● Hear lived experiences and insights from peer-led research
● Engage with exhibitions showcasing key findings and stories
● Drive accountability and meaningful action to tackle systemic health disparities experienced by Black African and Caribbean communities
The event objectives are to:
● Ensure the voices, insights, and lived experiences of peer researchers are heard, valued, and shared
● Inform local decision-makers and services about real, on-the-ground issues in the borough
● Encourage meaningful investment and action by those in positions of power, aligning commitments with real change

Welcome and Overview of Ealing Roots & Wings programme: 10:00-10:10 AM
Research expo and exhibition: 10:10-11:10 AM
An interactive exhibition where peer researchers will showcase the insights, stories, and themes uncovered through their research. Each stall will reflect a different aspect of the work. Guests will be invited to explore, ask questions, and engage directly with the researchers to gain a deeper understanding of lived experiences in the borough.
Research topics include:
· How stigma and systemic barriers affect access to mental health support
· The impact of workplace exclusion on Black African and Caribbean communities and their health
· How organisational harm affects the health of Black women in leadership
· Trust and representation in the healthcare system
· Whether removing leisure activity costs can improve wellbeing for Black African and Caribbean children
· Health issues affecting Black women in Ealing
· The impact of FGM on Somali women in Ealing and their experiences of care, support, and understanding within local services
· The role of community support for Somali fathers navigating children’s mental health and SEND
· How the media sector contributes to addressing health inequalities.
Peer research journey and insights: 11:10 AM-12:40 PM
The 9 organisations with representatives who participated in the peer research training include Rolladome, Descendants, The Voices for Autism Network, Zebra Sports, Came Women and Girls Development Organisation (CAWOGIDO), Westside Radio, HSENA, Ealing Somali Welfare and Cultural Association, and Communicate Inclusively CIC.
Peer researchers will share key insights from their work regarding health inequalities affecting Black African and Caribbean communities in the borough. Drawing on lived experience and community knowledge, they will highlight the barriers, challenges, and systemic issues impacting wellbeing. More than just presenting findings, this session offers a collective vision for change, outlining what needs to shift in services, systems, and mindsets to achieve racial and health equity for Black African and Caribbean communities in the borough.
Lunch: 12:40-13:15 PM
Stakeholder response and commitments: 13:15-14:15 PM
This session will invite local stakeholders and decision-makers to reflect on what they’ve heard and seen throughout the day. It is a moment to shift power by asking: What will you do with these insights? Stakeholders are encouraged to reflect on what has been shared and support meaningful change.
Closing remarks: 14:15-14:30 PM
