Still in its original 1806 building, the Portico Library celebrates both the historic and the contemporary culture of Manchester, welcoming the public, researchers and members to its unique 19th-century book collection and 21st-century events and exhibitions.

The Portico Library is thrilled to welcome Anita Sethi as our Rambler in Residence at the Portico Library from March to June 2023 with an exciting series of radical walks and events exploring protest, the right to roam and who can walk where.

We will explore areas near to the Portico Library and how Manchester contributed to the Industrial Revolution and the climate catastrophe that we are living in today as well as modern pollution. There will be short walks intertwined with writing exercises.</p>
