Talk on extreme ferments from Greenland in the face of a rapidly changing climate. Part of a year-long study into evolutionary diets.
Mike will have just returned from a 4 week solo ski-trek across the sea ice of Melville Bay in northern Greenland eating only a seal for a month. Part of an extensive study into how vital seal was to the success of the Inuit in Greenland over 7 thousand years, also diving into how an animals nutrient profile changes over time and how the human body has adapted to metabolise it successfully humans.
The arrival of the ice is vital to the ancient movements of the Inuit and climate change is making it more difficult to survive using traditional methods. Mike uses his hands-on experiences to look at how humans have evolved with food over millions of years and how the modern global food system is failing us.
This event is part of the Manningtree Earth Festival 2026 – a 5-week celebration of environmental action running from May 23 to June 30. Most events are free and volunteer led so if you can please donate when you sign up to the event.
