A rare opportunity to see <a href="https://tonydupe.com/" title="https://tonydupe.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tony Dupé</a> play live and introduce his place inspired ambient music / field recordings. This event is park of Microscope's 2024 Echolocation series.Doors at 4pm, after the performance there will be a sonic conversation facilitated by 'Through Sounds' writer and editor <a href="https://www.antonspice.com/" title="https://www.antonspice.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Anton Spice</a>.Expect desertscapes, ecology and immersive sounds!

<blockquote>Tony Dupé is an Australian musician, composer, producer and academic.</blockquote><blockquote> </blockquote><blockquote>He started his career playing, singing and writing songs in bands and released EPs and albums whilst working in bookstores and record stores. He moved into production and developed an approach which combined analogue recording and processing with DAW collages and loops. This garnered him a reputation for capturing intimate performances in country houses, halls and churches where the leaking outdoor sound became part of the sonic backdrop.</blockquote><blockquote> </blockquote><blockquote>During this period, Dupé released two acclaimed instrumental albums under the name Saddleback- Everything’s A Love Letter (2004, re-released 2005 which versions by Richard Skelton, Aaron Martin et al, and recently remastered vinyl release on Oscarson 2023) and Night Maps, 2007, on Preservation Records. His next solo release Assembly: Pella Desert Church for Pipe Organ and Birds (2019), was recorded in an isolated historic stone church in rural Victoria (Australia). As part of a desire to capture and transform a sense of place, Dupé strategically installed microphones around the church, to catch the surrounding natural soundscape, which was then sent back into the church. He then improvised with and against the reverberant birdsong on the 100 year old characterful pipe organ inside.</blockquote><blockquote> </blockquote><blockquote>Dupé collaborated with composer Claire Deak to create the acclaimed album The Old Capital (Lost Tribe Sound, 2020) and his solo album Margaret Hammett Lived was released in 2021 on the same label.</blockquote>

About EcholocationIn 2024 a rising tide of noise is engulfing our lives, sometimes sound gives our lives meaning and sometimes it drowns us in over-stimulation. What is good and bad noise and where are our non-human friends in the cacophony? We’d like to find out so this year we’re using our shop front as the transmitter to hear echoes from far beyond the confines of Dalston and the city. ⁠
