Eco-Explorers - Bird Box Building Workshop (PM)

Working in partnership with Richmond Council, Barnes Common Limited (BCL) a local independent charity oversees the stewardship of Barnes Common, the Leg o' Mutton Local Nature Reserve and Vine Road Recreation Ground (affectionately known as Vine Road Park).Conservation has always been at the heart of all that we do and continues to be today. Whether we are preserving precious woodlands, creating important wildlife habitats, sowing seeds in our Community Growing area, introducing the community to the bats at Leg o' Mutton or engaging the community in our Lifelong Learning program, the Vine Road Project and Flood Resilience.

Eco-Explorers

Eco-Explorers is our series of activities for 10 to 14 year olds. We want to encourage young people to get hands on, learn about the wildlife all around us, and take steps to protect it!

Family Activities

Come along on our activities planned with families in mind - join our nature walks, growing sessions, litter picks and the Yaffles monthly nature club!

This event is part of our Eco-Explorers programme for 10-14 year olds and accompanying adults. Join us to learn practical skills and support local wildlife! We will guide each participant through the steps to safely construct their own small nest box, which can be taken home and placed in a suitable location ready for the spring!To ensure safe working, all young people must be accompanied by a parent/carer for the full event duration.In the workshop each participant will:<ul><li>Learn about the importance of nesting spaces for bird life</li><li>Measure and cut out all the pieces to construct their bird box</li><li>Use power tools and hand tools to construct the box</li><li>Leave the workshop with a completed bird box!</li></ul>All tools and materials will be provided along with basic safety equipment. Booking essential to ensure we have enough for everyone. Whilst this event is indoors, hard-wearing clothes and sturdy shoes are recommended - no loose fitting clothes such as unzipped jackets, no open toed shoes, and hair must be tied back when working. All our events are dog free unless specifically mentioned in the event listing.TICKETS: All proceeds from ticket sales will support our conservation work and future learning events and we would encourage you, if you can, to pay full price. We do not want cost to be a barrier to our activities, as such we have a limited number of discount concession tickets available, please select these if you cannot afford the full event cost.
