About this event

  • 3 hours 30 minutes

The Open University are delighted to host this event, bringing psychology into the community.

The keynote speaker, Dr Trudi Macagnino, is an academic in the School of psychology & Counselling at the Open University and co-author of a new OpenLearn course called ‘Climate Psychology: Facing the Climate Crisis’. Drawing on her PhD research and recent publications, Trudi will discuss the subject of eco-anxiety. Learning about the climate and ecological crisis can be very disturbing and overwhelming. We may feel a variety of different emotions often grouped under the umbrella label of eco-anxiety. But what is eco-anxiety and how can we learn to live meaningfully with the reality of the crisis without falling apart?

Other speakers include:

The Natural Academy – the first dedicated ecopsychology educational institution in Europe. Their speaker will explain what ecopsychology is, its foundation and how it is being used for personal and organisational health and development.

Wendy Hollway is Emeritus Professor of Psychology at The Open University. She will talk about why we need a space for the emerging discipline of climate psychology .

The event promises to be rich and thought-provoking.

There will also be the opportunity to talk to other Open University staff at the event who will be on hand to answer more general questions regarding studying with the OU.
