EDI Themed Lecture, presented by the School of Engineering and Digital Arts at the University of Kent:

Inclusive Design

by Laura Wigzell of The Pretty Good Project

Wednesday 15th November 2017

from 1 – 2 pm in Jennison Lecture Theatre (JLT), School of Engineering and Digital Arts

The Pretty Good Project showcases products, ideas and spaces that look great and make life easier. They do this to help people as they get older but also just because they think ease and elegance in everyday things makes life a little bit nicer for everyone.

The Pretty Good Project scours the high street, the internet, design studios and universities to find hidden gems and talent.  They bring them all together in one place for us to buy or to inspire.  They also take them on the road and put them through their paces at product testing cafes.

The aim of The Pretty Good Project is to get people talking about how our everyday surroundings help or hinder us and show how inclusive design can help everybody at every stage of life.

The Pretty Good Project is a social enterprise and it was established in 2016 by Laura Wigzell.

The Pretty Good Project is all about thoughtful, inclusive design.  We all have different and changing abilities. The Pretty Good Project champions those who are designing creatively to embrace this and who involve users in the design process from start to finish (otherwise known as inclusive design).

“We’re all going to be older one day – all being well – and there are so many really beautiful, interesting things we can do to our homes now to make life a little bit easier. The really cool thing is that if you make somewhere or something work for older people, you also make it work for lots of other people too – think parents, buggies, injuries, illnesses, disabled people, left-handed people, tall people. We can all benefit from more inclusive design.”

                                                                                                       - Laura Wigzell

Come along and hear Laura talk about inclusive design, about the products and spaces that we use every day, and about the best way to get others engaged with design.

This event is open to all staff and students at the University of Kent only.

Please note that photographs will be taken at this event for marketing purposes.  If you do not wish to be featured in any photographs please speak to a member of staff from EDA or with the photographer directly.
