About this event

We recognise the quality of climate and ecology-related teaching already present in many schools of architecture. Through this UK wide inter-institutional workshop we are seeking to support a mass cross-pollination of the ambitious ideas and approaches that are already underway.

Climate Curriculum Campaign

ACAN Education is campaigning to increase climate literacy in course programmes starting autumn 2020 through the Climate Curriculum Campaign. This event is a key part of the campaign, seeking to connect schools and provide support for educators looking to bring more climate teaching into their course programmes. More information about the campaign can be found here:

PART 1: The Assembly

To stimulate our collective thoughts, provide insight and provocations, we will have a short series of talks from representative of all levels of university education:

- ACAN & students from various UK architecture schools

- Professor Fionn Stevenson, Past Head of School at the Sheffield School of Architecture

- David Knight, RCA

- RIBA: Mina Hasman, Expert Advisory Group of the RIBA Sustainable Futures

PART 2: The Workshop

In smaller breakout rooms we will appraise obstacles limiting progression as well as actions that can be implemented into our various educational offerings this coming academic year.

As far as we know this sort of event hasn't happened before and we're excited about the benefits of bringing a range of educators and viewpoints into one (virtual) room. The session will be inclusive to all those within architecture education and no prior climate literacy or specific knowledge is required.

Please make sure you register as an event link will be emailed to you via eventbrite closer to the date.

We hope you can join us!

About ACAN

ACAN is a network of individuals within architecture and related built environment professions taking action to address the twin crises of climate and ecological breakdown.

The profession is not responding quickly enough to the climate emergency. As a network of individuals, ACAN directs personal expertise and singular efforts towards a common goal - systemic change in the profession and the construction industry at large. ACAN operates without commercial affiliations or support, allowing the network to act at pace and with autonomy. Through collective action, ACAN is working to demand, instigate and propagate the transformation of the construction industry.

ACAN is driven by three aims:

1. Rapid decarbonisation

2. Ecological regeneration

3. Cultural transformation
