Hi, I’m Amy Houldey. I’m a researcher, communicator, facilitator, and strategist with particular expertise in employee engagement.I have 14 years of experience specialising in internal communications and employee engagement for some of the world’s leaders in their sector. During my time at communications agency H+K, I worked with a number of leading pharmaceutical companies. Immediately before joining H+K, I worked with BP to lead communications for a global transformation programme, as well as develop and implement an awareness and behaviour change campaign across 49 different countries. Prior to this, I worked for the world’s largest commercial real estate services firm, with over 24,000 employees, where I developed and implemented their first UK internal communications strategy. My public sector experience includes work for Westminster City Council where I led communications for a complex reorganisation. These experiences have provided me with invaluable insights into how to reach and engage with a variety of audiences. I’m also a qualitative and quantitative researcher (MSc Psychology), with a particular passion for developing and delivering behaviour change campaigns. My most recent work has been:<ul><li>Internal communications manager for Town Hall redevelopment at Waltham Forest Council</li><li>Marketing lead for a multi-faceted campaign for Wandsworth as well as Sutton Council that aimed to encourage residents to recycle more of the right things.</li><li> Account Director and strategist for the development of a marketing strategy for Wolverhampton City Council – a holistic approach looking at internal as well as external comms</li><li>Account Director for qualitative research conducted in Tameside to understand current perceptions and aspirations that fed into the development of a place marketing strategy. </li></ul>I've also some won awards, including:<ul><li>Institute of Internal Communications rising stars '30 under 30' (class of 2014)</li><li>Internal Institute of Communications team of the year for 2010</li><li>Award winning (LGComms gold award, CorpComms highly commended, silver FEIEA award) internal campaign which increased customer satisfaction.</li></ul>I believe in the importance of effective, innovative and emotional dialogue between an employer and its people. A large number of individuals now, are not just looking for a job, they are also looking for a purpose, an organisation in which they can align their personal values and feel proud to work for. This can only be achieved through genuine, authentic communication that opens the floor to employees and encourages them to also share their own stories. I have worked in many different organisations and have seen and experienced first-hand the difference that a genuine desire to engage and listen to employees can make to the culture and experience an employee has. Often, employee communication is also about behaviour change and understanding the nits and bolts of how an organisation works. This is where I also lean on my interest in psychology, since completing as MSc in 2016.I love the diversity of working in this field and look forward to sharing some of my learnings and observations, as well as finding out more about your experiences.
