Event description
Talk on how Britain votes, and how we can change it for the better.

About this Event

As the Member of Parliament for Portsmouth South, I am a strong believer in giving power to the people.

I have long been concerned by the limitations of the First Past The Post (FPTP) system that we use in Britain, and the way in which it marginalises the voices of many. Other democratic countries such as Canada and New Zealand have successfully implemented electoral reform in the past: we can learn from them and others what are the best ways to approach this complex issue.

Please join me on Thursday 5 March, 2020 at 7:30pm at Lecture Theatre LT2 in the Richmond Building to hear from the Electoral Reform Society's Director of Policy Jessica Garland and Make Votes Matter and the Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform's Caroline Osborne. We will be discussing the ERS's latest report on the 2019 General Election, and the effect that FPTP has on the voters of Hampshire.
