Overview
Learn an eco friendly, modern way to etch zinc using electricity!
Join Our Electro Etching Workshop!
Electro etching is a form of intaglio printmaking which has similar results to the more commonly used forms of acid etching. Instead of using a corrosive liquid, an electrolyte is used, in this case, zinc sulphate for etching zinc. A small electrical current is conducted through the plate, around one volt, which ignites the etching process.
What to expect in this workshop
- Learn how to prepare a zinc plate for etching and apply a wax ground ready for drawing.
- Explore a range of mark-making techniques using different tools to create varied textures and effects.
- Once etched and cleaned, your plate will be inked by hand with water-based ink and printed using an etching press.
- Work from your own reference images, transfer an image onto the plate, or create an original design as you go.
- Take your finished prints home at the end of the session, or leave them to dry and collect them a few days later.
This is a very small class so spaces are limited to ensure lots of attention and time with the equipment.
The ticket includes all specialist materials and use of professional tools.
The class runs from 10am - 5pm, including a 1 hour lunch break.
