About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours 45 minutes

Elmhurst Summer Masterclass is presented in collaboration with The Frederick Ashton Foundation, and is part of the Ashton Worldwide 2024–2028 festival. For further information, visit frederickashton.org.uk.

Join us for an inspiring morning of dance at Elmhurst Ballet School as we honour the extraordinary legacy of Sir Frederick Ashton, one of the founding figures of British ballet.

This year's Summer Masterclass, open to dancers aged 10-16, will include a classical ballet class and the chance to learn iconic Ashton repertoire under the guidance of Elmhurst’s expert faculty. We are delighted to be joined by former Birmingham Royal Ballet Principal and Artistic Associate of The Frederick Ashton Foundation, Sandra Madgwick, whose extensive experience in Ashton’s works will bring an added depth and authenticity to the session.

The day will conclude with an exclusive presentation on Ashton's life and career, followed by a Q&A session, offering dancers a unique opportunity to gain valuable insight into Ashton’s enduring influence and the professional dance world.

Spaces are limited—don’t miss this unforgettable opportunity to train where passion meets legacy.

Elmhurst Ballet School is commemorating its Centenary in 2023 and is a world leader in ballet training and education, inspiring, nurturing and celebrating young ballet dancers with the talent, commitment and passion to become exceptional dance professionals.

Expert staff deliver elite training in state-of-the-art facilities, an experience enriched by a highly-esteemed association with Birmingham Royal Ballet and an ongoing relationship with Studio Wayne McGregor.

Elite but not elitist, Elmhurst believes that talent is classless and its exceptional training opportunities should be available to young dancers regardless of their financial, social and cultural backgrounds.

While Elmhurst is an independent school, typically some 80% of students benefit from Government support and in-house bursaries to train with at the school. Unfortunately, this is never enough and the school is reliant on the generosity of donors to enable it to continue to train the most talented young people in need of support.

Her Majesty The Queen Consort, who has supported the school since 2006, visited Elmhurst on 14 March 2023 to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
