About this event

  • 2 hours

Hi there,

This is an embroidery workshop that features my typical programme: a short presentation of research to get everyone inspired and hopefully to introduce those to artists they haven't heard of before or social histories not yet acquainted with, an initiatory embroidery task with a demonstration of stitch styles (for complete beginners as well as advanced stitching styles for experienced) and then the remaining time for stitching together as a group. I am on hand throughout the workshop.

For those who have attended my workshops before, do note that this will be a new presentation of research so you have plenty more to be inspired by :)

Those who know me and my work will know that I am especially interested in how embroidery is a form of energy work and that the act of making it has a certain potency which is special and which can also tell us something of a social history of individuals and cultures. The research included in my presentation will touch and expand on this. The aim is to engage everyone to be inspire and especially to aim not to produce anything neat or overly perfect but to explore different ways of mark-making with thread. Bad embroidery is the best embroidery.

This is a safe, inclusive space, for people of all genders and abilities. I provide equipment and materials to use during the workshop. You may take all materials you use home with you as well the needle. If you can, please do bring an embroidery hoop but I will also supply these to use during the workshop. If you have a particular colour of embroidery silk or wool etc that you want to work with, please do bring these in case I don't have your colour palette covered.

Carbon negative drinks will be available to purchase from the bar during the event.

My very best and feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions.
