A scathing report in December 2020 by the “Parliamentary Housing Committee” said it was “deeply shocking and completely unacceptable” to have more than 2,000 “high-risk” residential buildings with “dangerous cladding” over three years after the Grenfell disaster. It also said it would be “an abdication of responsibility” by the government if leaseholders were forced to pay to fix the problem. The role of the cladding in the 2017 Grenfell Tower disaster, has destroyed faith in Building Regulations. The End Our Cladding Scandal campaign , launched by “Inside Housing” highlights 1.93 million “mortgage prisoners” in England, who are unable to sell their homes because banks and other mortgage providers have refused to lend to would-be buyers.Currently, the only recognised survey methodology is via obtaining an “External Wall Fire Review”, which will enable the signing off on an EWS1 certificate. This is the building owner’s responsibility to provide.
