Virus into Sound: Listen to the aural interpretations of an evolving virus and discuss the process of transforming epidemics into sound.

The Horse Hospital

On October 23rd find out what sound artist JOCKEL LIESS and virologist DR ZISIS KOZLAKIDIS have been getting up to in their ongoing quest to transform a blizzard of data on epidemics into an experience everyone can understand.We&#x27;ll be in the unique surroundings of Bloomsbury&#x27;s Horse Hospital to hear Jockel&#x27;s interpretation of the H1N1 Flu virus and talk about how he transformed the genetic data of a mutating virus into sound.We’ll also be discussing the history of this collaboration, why Zisis and Jockel are doing it and where it might lead them in the future.Most importantly, Jockel and Zisis are keen to hear what people think about their work. There will be lots of room to join in and ask questions. And you don&#x27;t have to know anything about music or medicine, this is for everyone!Jockel Liess is an audiovisual artist and composer specialising in live-generative audiovisual systems that create abstract, meditative environments.Dr Zisis Kozlakidis is Head of Laboratory and Biobanking at the International Agency for Research on Cancer / WHO (World Health Organisation). He is also a virologist working on the front-line of disease around the world.
