Epistemic AI Workshop
Thematic workshop about Uncertainty Quantification in Artificial Intelligence
Join us for a Thematic Workshop on Uncertainty Quantification in Artificial Intelligence for insightful presentations and networking on the topic of reliable and responsible AI.
About event
To mark the conclusion of the EU Horizon 2020 project Epistemic AI (E-pi), Oxford Brookes University is hosting a one-day Thematic Workshop on Uncertainty Quantification in Artificial Intelligence. The workshop will bring together selected representatives from academia, industry, and funding agencies to discuss emerging methods, share insights from the project, and explore what comes next for uncertainty-aware AI.
About Epistemic AI
Epistemic AI re-imagines AI with a proper treatment of uncertainty stemming from our inevitably partial knowledge of the world. The project’s overarching aim is to develop a new paradigm for next-generation AI that can provide worst-case guarantees on predictions, moving beyond conventional probabilistic approaches. This includes new mathematical foundations for optimisation under epistemic uncertainty, and new learning paradigms across supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning.
What to expect
Across the day, we will combine research highlights with forward-looking discussion:
- Presentations of key project results from Epistemic AI
- Panel discussions on the future of uncertainty quantification in AI, including implications for industry and society
- A poster session where participants can showcase their work (students, academic teams, and industry representatives all welcome)
- Time for conversation and networking with peers working on reliable and responsible AI
Agenda of the day
Morning
8:30 - Start of registration / Posters
9:00 - Coffee & Tea
9:30 - Induction & Welcome
10:00 - Overview of project and its results, including exploitation
10:30 - Spotlight presentations from E-PI team
11:30 - Feedback session
12:00 - Lunch & Poster sessions
Afternoon
13:00 - Presentations from invited speakers
14:00 - Coffee & Tea
14:15 - Panel Discussion: Implications of the Findings for Research, Industry, Regulation, and the Public
15:15 - Networking & Poster sessions
16:00 - Final discussion on the future, sustainability and impact
Registration is required (places are limited). We look forward to welcoming you to Oxford for an engaging day of research, discussion, and community-building around uncertainty-aware AI.
