Description

Equality and intersectionality is an exciting opportunity to:

  • share learning about equality work* and applying intersectionality across cities, sectors and countries of the UK
  • network with people working in equality third sector organisations in England and Scotland, people in the public sector, academics and equality policy makers

*(i.e. disability, gender, LGBTI, race equality, etc.)

The event will include:

  • short presentations about using intersectionality in equality practice:

    • Tressa Burke, Glasgow Disability Alliance
    • Hilary Third, Scottish Government Equality Unit
    • Mridul Wadhwa, Forth Valley Rape Crisis Centre
    • Sam Rankin, Equality Network
    • Ubuntu Women Shelter

  • delicious lunch from Punjabi Junction
  • practical workshops:
    • Intersectionality ‘Train the trainer’ (Equality Network)
    • Intersectionality and representation and voice in decision-making (HEAR network)
    • Perceived clashes of rights between equality strands (Engender and Scottish Trans Alliance)
  • time for networking

The event is for anyone working on equality in:

  • third sector
  • public sector
  • policy
  • academia
  • community organisations

Access

  • The venue is highly-rated on Euan’s guide, with level access throughout; automatic doors, 35 inches wide

The event aims to be an inclusive space and full inclusivity guidelines will be published and form part of joining instructions.

  • Equality practitioners exchange learning on applying intersectionality across cities, networks and organisations, influencing practice, with one another and with other practitioners, policy makers, and academics
  • Equality practitioners increase connection with one another across cities and countries, which engender lasting relationships
