Social Media Evaluation- Impressions vs Engagements...What's the difference?

For many of us, social media has become our main outreach and engagement tool, and an even more important source of dissemination and marketing data. But what is the difference between an impression and an engagement? Should we count all interactions or just comments and likes? And what is the best way to record and report this data? How the inner workings of these social media algorithms work, and the subtle differences between the metrics recorded by each platform, makes it really daunting for us on this side of the screen to interpret this data in a clear and concise way. At this Intersections bitesize discussion we will be giving you an insight behind the curtain with two social media evaluation experts. We will be joined by Calum McAndrew from Scotland’s EXPLORATHON speak about innovative social media events, and Amy Hayward, Digital Marketing Manager for the Cayman Islands Cabinet Office, to share their insights and best practices on using social media metrics for evaluation. They will try and address all your questions on the love/hate relationship we all have with social media.This was one of the most suggested topics you wanted Intersections to cover and we are very excited for this discussion, as we all probably have so much to learn! Certainly not one to miss! This session is co-hosted by the European Science Engagement Association, EUSEA, and INTERSECTIONS, a new kind of European Researcher&#x27;s Night delivery. INTERSECTIONS is an international delivery of ERN, showcasing the international, intersectional, interdisciplinary and interrelated nature of research across Europe in a series of audience-focussed and interactive online and in-person events. This edition of European Researcher’s Night, run independently of all other NIGHTs, will provide a platform on which researchers and publics across Europe can participate. One of our objectives is to create a space where co-ordinators and researchers can interact and learn from each other. Another is to provide NIGHTs across Europe a virtual EU corner for their own deliveries. Join us to find out more.
