About this event
ESOL Training and Development
We invite you to join us for our third Regional Networking event of 2025.
The focus of this session is on training opportunities to become an ESOL teacher, and professional development opportunities for ESOL practitioners in our region.
The routes taken to becoming an ESOL teacher can be many and varied, and accessing specialised training in this area can sometimes be challenging. The sector itself is also diffuse, with many people coming to the delivery of learning through experience, through volunteering or through teaching in other sectors. NATECLA recommends that ‘everyone teaching English to speakers of other languages should be trained as a specialist teacher of ESOL’. In this session we will discuss this recommendation, as well as exploring the regional routes available to specialist training, and the resources available to help people access them. We will also highlight work being done across the region to increase access to training and boost our capacity to deliver high quality ESOL learning.
The capacity to deliver high quality learning is also dependent on the provision of training opportunities to help ESOL practitioners develop their practice in a fast moving sector. The second focus of this session is on innovative approaches to ESOL CPD. In a diverse sector, how can we deliver training that reaches all our providers, to help us develop a coherent and creative experience for our ESOL learners? We will discuss this issue with input from a range of practitioners.
This Regional Networking event is offered as an online event. We offer the event in two time slots on 12th November, in order to accommodate colleagues working at different times of the day. You can join us either at 10.30 am or 4.30pm. The session is the same at either time.
This registration page is for our morning session at 10.30 to 12.15. For our twilight session (16:30 - 18.15) please follow THIS LINK.
