About this event

  • 3 hours

T hese weekday walks are happening regularly (usually on a Monday) and are based in and around the Peak District. Now the days are longer, we'll be taking advantage of the beautiful evenings too! This walk takes place in an iconic location of the Dark Peak with just over four miles of breath-taking scenery.

The walk starts by heading to Stanage Edge, where we will 'bag' the trig point and enjoy the views before making our way to Higger Tor. Here we will stand on top of the rocky promontory and enjoy panoramic views of the Peak District. We will then walk down into the valley before rising up again to walk along the top of Burbage South and then Burbage North. If we're lucky with the weather, we'll hopefully enjoy a sunset with a hot chocolate! Hear about the local history, geology, flora and fauna whilst connecting with like-minded women.

So whether you're looking to meet other outdoorsy women in the community, get ideas for routes for your own walks or runs, or simply want to inject a good dose of fresh air and views into your week, this walk is for you!

Distance: 8km

Ascent: 150m

Level: Easy/Moderate/Challenging:

Who will be your guide?

I’m Emily (AKA @trigsandteeth on Instagram!) and I’m a Hill and Moorland Leader based in Glossop at the edge of the Dark Peak. I’ve always been outdoorsy since being a young girl but hiking became a real obsession in 2019 when I started to go solo. I aim to inspire other women to learn the many benefits of exploring in the outdoors and I’m passionate about sharing my love for adventure with you!

Transport:

We'll be meeting at the Upper Burbage Bridge Car Park, Ringinglow Rd, Sheffield, Hope Valley S32 1BR (https://maps.app.goo.gl/c7cAR39tXjPa6yqv9), which is around £3.50 to park (correct at time of typing) There is some free parking in laybys further up the road..

What to bring:

Hiking boots or trainers with good grip

Snacks/hot drink

Rucksack

Water (at least 1L)

Waterproofs and warm layers

Hat and gloves

Head Torch

Walking Poles (optional)

Terrain:

Mostly trails and footpaths, some uneven and rocky areas, some muddy fields. There are stiles to climb on this walk.

Toilets:

There are no toilets at the car park or along the way on the walk so we may have to embrace the good old ‘wild wees’ whilst we’re out! There are plenty of little hidden spots for us to squat in private!

Safety:

The whole point of the walk is to be an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone so we will keep to steady pace to suit the group. It's about taking in the views, learning about the history and geology of the area and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety and with all outdoor activities, there can be risks involved. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on this walk, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns. Please inform me of any medical conditions prior to the walk.

I am a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader and I am level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so I will be on hand in case of an emergency.

Dogs:

Dogs are more than welcome to come along, however, there will be livestock around and potentially other dogs, so they will need to stay on a lead for parts of it. Between March and July, dogs are required to stay on a short lead to protect ground nesting birds in some areas.

Refund Policy:

Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled. If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let me know if you do so.

And FINALLY:

This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I deem the conditions dangerous so be ready to embrace the good old British weather! If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged or you can redeem your ticket on one other walk on a date suitable to you.
