Join us to celebrate the launch of London College of Communication’s Everything Happens So Much, as part of London Design Festival 2018.
The Launch Night will include a number of performances from students and staff from across the Design School, plus an opening keynote speech and discussion with Sarah Weir, OBE, Chief Executive of the Design Council.
Event locations and information:
6-7pm: Keynote/discussion with Sarah Weir OBE, CEO Design Council (Lecture Theatre A)
Sarah will present highlights from new Design Council research 'The Design Economy 2018: The state of design in the UK' and will discuss with Dr Nicky Ryan, Dean of Design the key challenges and opportunities facing the sector and how they relate to wider global design trends.
7.10-7.20pm: WOW, Atrium Gallery
The Launch Night sees the launch of WOW Journal – collaborative publishing project from the students of the Diploma in Professional Studies. WOW is a space for critical engagement with the ever increasing possibilities and potential futures of creative practice, it’s role in culture as well as reflections on the realities of the world outside the academic context. The Design School private view sees the launch of the publication, alongside the performative presentation of the WOW MANIFESTO, a collaboratively produced response to a year spent practicing outside of the academic institution.
7.25-7.45pm: Route-Artlantique, LCC Studio, Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre
Route-Artlantique is an exhibition of work by students from LCC and Elisava, drawing upon a series of workshops and engagements with local artists,designers and artisans from across Senegal, exploring both traditional skills and new appropriations.
7.50-8.10pm: Supra Systems Studio, Upper Gallery

8.30-9pm: Velocity, Lower Gallery
Tim Hutchinson and Alex Cooper will be giving a talk about the launch of their publication Velocity. The Lower Gallery is an extracted exhibit of the ideas, concepts and visuals surrounding this project.
Plus performances throughout the evening from Mapping Strange Assemblages in various locations.

About Sarah Weir OBE, Chief Executive Design Council:
Sarah Weir is CEO of Design Council. She was previously Executive Producer at the Roundhouse in London, Chief Executive of Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire and her other past roles include Chief Executive of The Legacy List, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park charity (now called Foundation for Future London); Head of Arts and Cultural Strategy for Olympic Delivery Authority; Executive Director, Arts Council England; London and Executive Director of the Almeida Theatre.
Sarah started her career as a broker at Lloyd’s of London and over a 15 year career went from being the office junior to Managing Director, the first woman to hold this position. She has a History of Art BA from Birkbeck College (1993-7), was awarded an OBE for services to the arts (2011), First Woman Awards for public service (2013) and is a Fellow of Birkbeck College (2013). Sarah also serves on the board of the Alzheimer’s Society.
