Sally Redgewell, local writer and member of the Evesham Rowing Club, is presenting an interesting afternoon talk looking at how Evesham has evolved along the banks of the River Avon since the mid-nineteenth century - from the arrival of the railways and the building of Workman Bridge, to the present day. She will also delve into the history of the Evesham Rowing Club highlighting its place in the town's history, and the amazing sporting achievements of its members.
Come along for amusing stories and anecdotes - this event will be full of information for anyone interested in local history.
The Clubhouse has been a prominant feature on the bank of the River Avon since the Rowing Club was founded in 1863. The Evesham Rowing and Rackets Club is now home to tennis, squash and rowing, along with a beautiful venue with a bar and cafe.
The Evesham Rowing and Rackets Club is launching a huge fundraising initiative to raise funds to purchase the freehold of the building and surrounding grounds. The building is currently leased and this limits the ability of the club to improve the sporting facilities, and the structure of the building. We want to create an amazing resource for the local community, continuing to provide friendly, accessible sporting activites, along with a vibrant social space.
This talk is free to attend, but a suggested donation of £5 per ticket will help us to reach our goal.
