Overview

Intro to Executive Function for ND parents: why we struggle and how to build brain-friendly systems with clarity, tools, and compassion.

Are you a neurodivergent parent wondering why everyday tasks such as planning, organising, getting started on something, feel harder than they do for others?

Maybe you’re supporting a neurodivergent child while navigating your own executive function differences.

Executive function is the set of mental skills that help us plan, prioritise, remember, shift attention, and regulate emotions. This introductory session explores what executive function is, why ND parents struggle with executive function and how ND parents can create systems that support their brains, offering clarity, compassion, and practical tools for ND families.

What you’ll learn

  • A clear, accessible explanation of the part of the brain behind planning, focus, memory, and regulation.
  • Common difficulties for ADHD and autistic parents e.g. task initiation, overwhelm, sensory load, emotional intensity, and burnout.
  • Why transitions, routines, and stress can escalate quickly, and how to support both your EF and your child’s.
  • Practical strategies for externalising systems, reducing cognitive load, and designing environments that work for ND brains.
  • The opportunity to hear and share strategies that other parents have found useful.

Who should attend

  • Neurodivergent parents (diagnosed or self‑identified)
  • Parents of ND children who suspect they may also be ND
  • Professionals supporting ND families
  • Anyone seeking a compassionate, research‑informed introduction to executive function

If you want validation, language for your experience, and tools that fit your brain, this session is for you.

Your workshop facilitators:

Dr Richard Smith is a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years working with the neurodivergent community.

REPLAY INCLUDED: If you can't make the date, then a recording will be available after the webinar for anyone purchasing a ticket.
