Platform for Emerging Arts #14
3 – 13 May 2017
Private View 2nd May 18.30 – 21.00
Leyden Gallery's forthcoming exhibition Platform for Emerging Arts #14 is an all-woman mixed media exhibition focused on ideas of revelations, transformations and shifting perspectives. It promises a dynamic display from four talented emerging artists in one of East London's most vibrant art spaces. Responding to a call-out for emerging art, each of the four artists has been selected for their promise and skill by curators Adriana Cerne & Lindsay Moran. Leyden Gallery has shown its astute judgment in recognising emerging talent, as their perception in the past has produced artists who have gone on to both critical acclaim and commercial success.
With the development of each of Leyden Gallery’s Platform shows there is a fabulous opportunity for the public to both see and buy art from emerging artists at a critical early stage of their careers.
Concentrating on drawing and installation, Tilla’s work explores themes of identity, home, and the body. Largely autobiographical, she uses biological materials such as broken eggshells and living matter – plants, insects, fungus – as media, either drawing directly onto them or using them to transform objects and spaces.
Sara Von Hagens
Von Hagens examines feelings as social observation, and as an exploration of intimacy to give a visible form to emotions. Her goal as an artist aims to seize what could be considered as the emotional essence of an idea whilst translating it into an artwork through social engagement; in this she is attempting to carry optimism and positivity through the process.
South African Born Sheera Jacobs Graduated from the UCL Slade School of fine art in 2010.Her practice, which consists of painting, drawing and photography explores and creates images of people and landscapes which appear to be in flux, existing in fluid spaces of temporality, memory, culture and identity.
Tiffany Tangen is a portrait photographer. Her work looks at the twilight world of the menacing and the grotesque in a subtle, realistic and ambiguous manner. Using heavily contrasting darks and lights alongside intense clarity, the work appears to reveal every detail and imperfection of her subjects, whilst conversely drawing upon ideas of commercialism and the notion of glamorisation.
