SPEAKER
Nick Holroyd, Advocate, Terra Firma Chambers
Nick has a wide-ranging civil practice.
In recent years, the emphasis has been on Contentious Executries, and trusts of various sorts.
Nick is interested in capacity, powers of attorney and their interplay with other deeds.
Nick has experience with pensions disputes, including private, local authority, NHS, and other schemes. He contributed to Tolley's Pension Dispute Procedure & Remedies. In cost of care disputes, he has acted for care providers, and service users.
Nick is a past chair of TrustBar. He was a member of Member of the Scottish Law Commission’s Advisory Group on Trust Law (General), on the EU Committee of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (“STEP”), and on the Scottish Committee of STEP.
Nick has given written and oral evidence to committees of the Scottish Parliament including in relation to the bill which became the Succession (Scotland) Act 2016, and more recently in relation to reform of administration of charities. Earlier this year, Nick was involved with a written submission to The House of Lords Constitution Committee in respect of its inquiry into the rule of law.
Nick has tutored at several universities, including last year for Aberdeen University (Private Client).
Nick has given many talks and webinars mainly to Scottish solicitors.
In the course of his practice, Nick has had to deal with medical experts, including orthopaedic surgeons, and psychiatrists.
