London Historians monthly lecture for November 2021.

How Fortnum &amp; Mason helped British explorers to kit, equip and provision themselves for harsher climes. The topic of this talk is Fortnum’s relationship with explorers from the 19th century until recent days. We shall look at the likes of Alfred Russell Wallace, Frank Kingdon Ward, Shackleton, Howard Carter, Mallory, Irvine and others. __________________________________________Our SpeakerAndrea Tanner was a professional genealogist, historical researcher, and a medical historian, before becoming custodian of the Fortnum &amp; Mason archive, which it has been her pleasure to guard, protect and augment since Noah was a cabin boy (or 1996, whichever is the longer). She was introduced to the collection through the good offices of a friend, while working for the Norroy &amp; Ulster King of Arms at the College of Arms. In her spare time, she is honorary archivist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, on the Committee of the London Tea History Association, and a new member of the Heritage Committee of the RNLI.
