The ODI was co-founded in 2012 by the inventor of the web Sir Tim Berners-Lee and artificial intelligence expert Sir Nigel Shadbolt to show the value of open data, and to advocate for the innovative use of open data to affect positive change across the globe.

Increasing trustworthy, sustainable access to data:  one-day online event

Access to the right data can help us to tackle the big challenges we face – from the earlier detection of disease to reducing pollution in urban spaces. We need data to be stewarded responsibly to ensure that data is available to address these economic, societal and environmental issues, in ways that don’t cause harm to people and communities.At the Open Data Institute, we’ve established a programme to explore the role of data institutions – organisations which purpose involves stewarding data on behalf of others, often towards public, educational or charitable aims.
