Join us for a ten week therapeutic writing course around memory and nostalgia, resulting in a published anthology!
Only you can write your story. But where would you start? And what would give you the inspiration to actually put pen to paper, put words on the page…?
Over this ten week course, we will offer a range of exercises to get you thinking about your story, on how to get your ideas and memories onto the page, and on how to discover your inner investigative journalist to tease out a vibrant record from even the darkest corners of your memory.
Lead by Gerard Winter-Hughes, creative director of The Word Association, the course is open to all. Gerard brings a wealth of experience from a long career in magazine publishing, where he enjoyed many years in a variety of roles, telling stories through words, images and creative use of the page. His recent work has increasingly focussed on themes of memory and nostalgia, and some of this will be utilised on the course.
Would anybody know your story? Do you believe that anybody else knows who you are, what you do, what you think…?
On this course, our objective is to get to a point where we can write our first chapter – whether that’s a paragraph, a page or many pages. It’s about starting to write your own story. We’re going to explore how we look at others, how well we really know them and then in turn, take time look at how we present ourselves to the world. If someone you know read ‘your’ story, would they be surprised? Would they learn many things they were unaware of? Would they recognise the person in the story?
If you have already taken part in an ‘Exploring Memory’ course, this will not be for you. You may wish to consider joining our ‘Threads’ course to take your memoir writing onto the next stage.
Sessions will take place at The Hive, Worcester from 10-00-12.00 on a Friday, from 12th June - 14th August inclusive
