Exploring positionality through self-study workshop
About this event
This interactive workshop will provide opportunities for participants to explore, experiment with, and compare and contrast a range of different self-study techniques that can facilitate personal reflection. This is meant to provide a practical accompaniment for, and follow-up to, other Festival sessions which consider the impact of positionality in decolonisation work and urge participants to explore their own identities. I wholeheartedly support this call to action but realise that people may not always know what this should entail or where to start. This session is designed to give hands-on experience with a range of reflective techniques that are meaningful, creative, engaging, and fun. In addition to experimenting with several methods on the day, participants will be invited to share their thoughts on the day so that, as a group, we can collaboratively produce a blog post to be featured on the SEDA website (https://www.seda.ac.uk).
This workshop will be delivered by Caitlin Kight, a former behavioural ecologist who specialised in the field of animal communication. As leader of the Academic Development and Skills team, Caitlin now blends the expertise from her previous work with experience in teaching, outreach, and management: she help academics and support staff reflect on their education-facing activities and improve their teaching and learning techniques.
