History on loop: exposing the intergenerational harm of school exclusions on Black communities

Communities Empowerment Network and the Runnymede Trust invite you to join the launch event for our upcoming report 'History on loop' which details the deep-rooted, intergenerational impact of school exclusions on Black students in the UK.

We show how racialised patterns of exclusion are not isolated incidents, but part of a continuing legacy of educational injustice that disproportionately affects Black communities.

Despite decades of research, advocacy, and reform, too many Black children continue to be excluded and overlooked by an education system that often fails to understand or support them.

School exclusions are more than disciplinary actions — they are life-altering moments that cast long shadows over the futures of students, their families, and communities. Through interviews with those directly affected, and an exploration of the historical context of these patterns, History on loop highlights how systemic racism, underinvestment, stigmatisation, and institutional neglect have limited opportunities for too many Black students, perpetuating cycles of social and economic disadvantage.
