About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Would you like to cycle more with your family but are not sure what equipment might work for you and your little one? Have your got experience of riding with children that you'd like to share with others? Have you bought a child cycling seat but need help getting it fitted? Would you like advice on safe routes to cycle with your family, or to meet other parents who cycle with their children? If so, read on!

In this family-friendly open workshop, we can help with getting you ready to cycle with your children. We have a range of equipment, such as tagalongs, tow bars, child seats, and balance bikes for you and your little one to try out in our outside courtyard space to see if it suits you. If you've got equipment that your child no longer needs and would like to pass it on, we'd welcome that too!

We particularly want to support mums and non-binary parents who would like to cycle more with their children, but we recognise that sometimes having someone else there to support you can be really helpful, so this event is open to all genders.

Come along to the workshop to find out more, enjoy free tea and cake* and meet other parents who already ride with their kids or are considering it too. Children are very welcome in the workshop - we've got a few toys and we'll keep tools out of reach.

You can book tickets for the 12-1.30 slot, or 1.30-3, or if you're feeling like you'll need more time, both!

We will be organising regular family friendly group rides this summer so this is a chance to get ready to ride. We'd love to know your thoughts about what might help you feel more confident and safe with a little one in tow. Come and have a cuppa in the workshop and we can share ideas about getting more familes on bikes.

What you need to bring:

  • Warm clothes you don't mind getting mucky
  • Additional snacks, especially if you've got dietary requirements.
  • If you're already confident riding with your children and wanted to share your experience and even bring some equipment to inspire others this would be much appreciated!

The workshop will be run by Emily - ride leader, Bikeability Instructor, and mum who regularly cycles with her daughter, and Lauren - cycling instructor and advocate and regular helper at Kidical Mass rides.

This event is part of Cycling UK's Big Bike Revival project. We will be collecting names and email addresses of participants to share with Cycling UK who will survey participants after the event. Survey responses help show the benefit of free support for cycling, helping to provide evidence to funders which in turn helps fund more free events.

Parking: Please note that we do not have designated parking spaces, you can park on Chaucer Street but it’s £2.80 per hour. You can also use the Park and Ride from the Forest Recreation Ground.
