This screening event is comprised of Polish animation made in the 20th and 21st centuries, which exist between fine art and cinema. The work varies thematically between comedy, surrealism, and adult fairy tales. The films explore universal themes, playing with stereotypes and bringing life to inanimate objects into unique worlds. Upon release, these films ensured that if there were any allusions that undermined the propaganda of the communist reality, they could be considered justified. At the same time, the universal meaning of many images was attractive enough not to cause controversy. These works attempted to diagnose the contemporary worldview with real history that usually played a secondary role, emphasising the tragic fate of the characters. General stylistic trends that made this group of filmmakers a school of thought include a lack of dialogue and commentary that would make the story easier to comprehend. These Polish animators use visual art and music in tandem and demonstrate the critical role of film. Allusions to early cinema also appear in contemporary cinema, for example, in the works of Mariusz Wilczyński and Tomasz Bagiński, which testify to the continuity of tradition.
