About this event
After the success of its sold out run at Hull’s Stage@theDock last year, From Below’s Faustus is back: bigger, better and with even more explosions than last time. Described as “Laugh out loud hilarious” and “genuinely exciting” by Exeunt magazine and “Theatre at its very best” by Middle Child Theatre, Faustus is a raucous, flaming adaptation of the old myth for a modern audience of all ages. An interactive fire circus with audience participation, an array of magical comedy and more than one flaming sword fight, the show is a combination of fire poi, acrobatics and pantomime.
With a text written by award-winning playwright Josh Overton (Sunday Times Playwright Award) and movement and magic created by award-winning choreographer Ed Grimoldby (Hull Dance Choreographic Award) this fantastic (and incredibly loose) adaptation of a classic thrilled audiences in Hull in 2021 and is set do more of the same again.
We at From Below believe audiences should not be put off watching high quality theatre by the price barrier of a ticket. We welcome donations for admission based on what you feel is a fair and affordable amount. Central to our performance ethos as a company is getting more people to engage with the arts without the fear of an expensive ticket.
The project has been made possible through the support of Arts Council England, Hull City Arts, Hull Truck, University of Hull and Wykland.
Special thanks to Danheim & Hildegard Von Blingen for music.
