<H2 CLASS="MsoNormal">AEB devolution – will it prove successful?</H2>
This FE Week and Pearson Great Debate is the third in a series of sessions designed to provide an opportunity for sector leaders to debate and share ideas on current and future FE and Skills policy.
Our third debate will focus on whether the devolution of the Adult Education Budget will prove to be a successful policy.
From August this year, more than £600 million of the £1.5 billion adult education budget will be devolved from the ESFA to seven mayoral combined authorities. These authorities will have complete control over how the money is spent, including rates and rules, but will only be able to fund students who live within their boundaries.
Leading figures from the FE sector will debate these pros and cons of AEB devolution with influential MPs, and share the latest news about the government’s skills devolution agenda.
The session will start with a speaker for and against the motion (see below) outlining their core argument. Following this, we will open contributions to our panellists and then allow contributions from the audience. At the start and end of the session, the audience will have the opportunity to vote on the motion.
This debate is kindly hosted by the Gordon Marsden MP, Shadow Minister for Higher Education, Further Education and Skills. It is also kindly supported by Pearson.
