FIBROIDS   FRATERNITEE  WORKSHOP

For many years, Griot has run peer support forums for Black women with chronic fibroids with presentations from expert patients, clinicians and naturopaths.  We are consulting to find out what women want in our new series of monthly forums. We also want to know how younger women want to be supported and how we can access the vast knowledge of older Black women who have accumulated a vast range of knowledge on how fibroids were dealt with 'back home' in order to explore potential wider options for women with chronic fibroids.

Griot Institute

This is an intergenerational experience and skills exchange forum.  Black women who have fibroids can share their experiences with other Black women who also have fibroids or have knowledge / interest in improving the health and well-being of women with fibroids.
This forum will prioritise the needs of women of African and Caribbean heritage because we  experience the highest incidence of chronic fibroids. Later forums will prioritise women from a diversity of backgrounds
Discussions will address how we have benefited from the support of older African and Caribbean women who have themselves used traditional back-home solutions.  Might these be relevant today?
Fibroids Fraternitee will also examine questions about what kind of health care women want in relation to their fibroids? What would a Black women-friendly service look like? What support do women want to deal with the disabling aspects of suffering from chronic fibroids?  What medical and clinical interventions have we had and how have these affected us? What lifestyle and natural approaches have we used to good effect?
Older Black women are especially welcome for their knowledge and wisdom and wed also warmly welcome young Black women as well as Black women of all ages.  Come, talk, share, learn, plan and laugh.  Fibroids can be funny too!!!
