Field Recording `Workshop

Ground FloorEdinburgh, Edinburgh
Saturday, Feb 28 from 3 pm to 7 pm GMT
Overview

Dive into the world of sounds and learn how to capture cool outdoor noises like a pro!

Field Recording Workshop!

Join us in person for a fun and hands-on dive into the world of field recording. Grab your dictaphones, cassette Walkmans, microphones — or even your phone! Whether you’re a total newbie, experienced recordist, or just curious about listening more closely to the world around you, this workshop is all about capturing sound in creative ways.

The session will be led by musician samwooddoowmas, who has used field recordings extensively in their own work — including the album Modes of Transportation (https://samwooddoowmas.bandcamp.com/album/modes-of-transportation),  where everyday travel sounds (cars, trains, walking and more) were transformed into full songs. We’ll talk through practical recording techniques, creative approaches, and the many ways found sound can be shaped into music, radio, or sound art.

We’ll then head out on a short wander to make our own recordings before regrouping to listen back, share what we captured, and discuss what we hear.

The workshop is being run in collaboration with EHFM, Edinburgh’s community radio station, and recordings from the day may be featured on Splinters — samwooddoowmas’ monthly show — with additional input from Slipping.

Perfect for budding producers, musicians curious about incorporating found sound into their projects, radio DJs, sound designers, meditation practitioners, or anyone interested in listening differently — the uses go on and on.

Bring your ears, your gear, and your curiosity. Let’s explore sound together.

FREE but limited spaces!
