About this event

Join us in June for two FREE special events held at the historic Lion Salt Works in Northwich!!

Saturday 15th June
Model: Jenny Asha Lily Wilde of Wilde Woman Creative
Theme: Jenny will be dressed in a gown inspired by the story of Lot's wife, who turned into a pilar of salt, and playing live harp music.

Sunday 23rd June
Model: Nick Davies
Theme: Nick will be dressed as a worker from the Lion Salt Works, and will be posing with various tools the workers will have used back in the day.

The free ticket includes materials you can use, and the session will be semi-led by Steph Coathupe (of Chester Life Drawing). You can follow the suggestions or bring your own materials and do your own thing, it's completely up to you! If you like, you can come a little earlier to visit Northwich Art Shop in town, and maybe stay afterwards to look around the Salt Works and draw the space. Afterwards, a selection of the artwork made will be exhibited as part of the Chester Festival of Ideas in July.

About the Salt Works

The Lion Salt Works is a restored historic open-pan salt making site, in the village of Marston, close to Northwich. Restored at a cost of over £10 million, the museum offers an insightful and atmospheric journey through the site’s different buildings. The site lies adjacent to the Trent and Mersey Canal, close to Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse, and the historic Anderton Boat Lift. When exploring the site, you will discover how the salt works operated and the impact of salt on mid-Cheshire’s people, economy and landscape.

About Northwich

With a rich, varied history and close ties to the salt industry, Northwich is a thriving market town nestled in the heart of Cheshire. The high street is full of unique and specialist independent businesses mixed with major national retailers and the town also hosts a monthly Artisan Market which is packed with amazing hand-crafted products. There is also Northwich Art Shop in the centre of town, a must-visit for all you Cheshire creatives!

Do I have to be a pro-artist to join in?

Absolutely not! You can come along with loads of experience or never having drawn before. It's all about listening to good tunes, doing something with your hands, and not look at a screen for two hours. Feel free to just drop in to try it out, you don't have to be a regular!

How old do I need to be to join?

We welcome artists of ALL ages in our community here at Chester Life Drawing, but this special event will probably be mostly appreciated by adults and slightly older kids or teens, rather than toddlers etc. If you're unsure, just drop us a message at hello@chesterlifedrawing.com

What are your sessions like?

These special sessions will be semi-led by Steph, with suggestions on what materials to use or what hand to draw with etc. You don't have to follow these, so if you'd rather do your own thing, go for it!

Can I take photos?

Sure! These sessions are clothed/costumed, so feel free to take photos to document the event and work from later. If you're posting any online, be sure to tag our Instagram and Facebook pages - we love seeing what you've made!
