Overview

Learn charity finance basics: trustees’ duties, bookkeeping, budgeting, reporting, and managing restricted funds, with hands-on practice.

Please note: To help reduce no-shows at our training sessions and make sure spaces go to those who need them, we are now asking for a £10 deposit to secure your place. Derby organisations will have this refunded after attending. For non-Derby organisations and anyone who does not attend, the £10 fee is non-refundable. A small non-refundable Eventbrite processing fee will also be added at checkout.

About this training:

An initial look at the role of Trustees and their responsibilities relating to finance, basic bookkeeping, budgeting, recording and reporting, as well as managing Restricted Funds usually relating to grants.

The main content of the course looks at the basics of bookkeeping for a charity in terms of the records that need to be kept and how to write up the records using spreadsheets. There is reference to accounting packages, but the course is really about manual record-keeping principles, as this is the starting point for organisations and those basics don't change, no matter how big the charity grows.

There is an opportunity for attendees to practice/learn the skills required for bookkeeping for a small charity.

The course is designed for those people involved in the finances of a charity, either as a Treasurer, bookkeeper, member of a management committee or indeed anyone interested in developing their accounting skills.
