Open banking – data rules or data dud?
Wednesday 27 June

This event is sponsored by Deloitte

Regulations rarely change the world, but they do lead to new business models and can shift who gets value in an exchange. The new UK Open Banking regulations came into effect in January and are creating new opportunities for niche services and value, including for small fintech start-ups and incumbents. Is value being created? How will it split between incumbents and new entrants? Before we look at building trust with consumers under Open Banking (which might not be obvious), let’s hear from a panel of experts about how businesses can position themselves and how they expect to benefit. Open banking regulations put consumer data at the heart of this digital evolution, so it’s important to explore how the new environment will work and how, hopefully, bring new value into the sector.
Our panel includes:

Rob Haslingden, is Head of Propositions and Product Marketing at Experian. He has over 26 years of experience in the application of consumer and commercial credit information, consumer segmentation and local market information. He is a well-known subject matter expert on Open Banking.

Ricky Knox (MBA 03D), is a serial entrepreneur and investor. He has built five technology disruptors in fintech and telecoms, each of which also does a bit of good for the world. Ricky is currently building the customer champion digital bank of the future, Tandem, and has previously disrupted remittances with Azimo and Small World (the sixth largest remitter in the world), FX and mobile telecoms. Ricky is also Managing Partner at Hexagon Partners, a specialist private equity firm which invests in Financial Technology.

Stephen Meikle, (Wharton MBA 06) is Head of Transformation for HSBC’s non-ring fenced bank, prior to which he was Head of Strategy for HSBC in the UK (2014-15). He worked for Barclays in relationship management and strategy roles form 2010-2013. Stephen was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey and Company focusing on financial services from 2006-2010. He was also The Economic Advisor to a Finance Minister in New Zealand. He has been an active angel investor since 2011, investing in over 20 start-ups.
